Race formats are simple during the Summer Series at NCQMA, pill draw and lets go feature racing. During registration Colt Johnson pulled a #72, not a great draw when you're only expecting 60 quarter midgets. But he wasn't phased by the poor luck.
During the drivers meeting lineups were posted and as expected Colt was lined up in the 6th and final spot. "Dad you know 6 is my lucky number" said Colt Johnson, having no idea how lucky 6 was on Tuesday.
The A Feature rolled around 6:30P and something just clicked. Colt got a great start and was able to advance two positions, making great passes, before the first caution came out. Single file on the restart two cars tangled in front of Colt with the leader almost a half track ahead. He managed to get under those two cars and set his sights on chasing down the race lead. The caution came a couple laps later creating another single file restart. The lead car pulled out to a 4 car length advantage before Colt was able to start chasing him down. Hitting his marks every lap Colt was able to catch and make a great pass for the lead going into turn one, staying there the rest of the race.
